Reblogged from surrealism

The Enigma of a Day by Georgio de Chirico, 1914.
Although not technically surrealism, de Chirico’s metaphysical paintings were an inspiration for the surrealists. This work hung in André Breton’s rue Fontaine apartment from 1924-1935. It is now property of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

my favorites, but a bit off...beaten path for most art history surveys… I have yet to...
few artists whose...I am familiar with and I particularly like.
